I thought about youth
as carefree days
spent with friends in joy,
unfettered by the worries of life,
and also sweet teenage love
filled with passion and purity,
and curious lust.

I think about youth now,
as days spent in anxiety and
of days spent questioning one’s
own worth and image,
and most of all of
silly crushes and stupid
fantasies of love
that never came to pass.
